Sunspel to open first women’s shop

British heritage brand Sunspel will open its first dedicated womenswear store in Shoreditch on February 14, bringing its total store count to five.

The 300 sq ft shop will house thefull womenswear collection, which has been expanded for spring 14, and will be situated next door to its menswear store on Redchurch Street, which opened in 2010.

Sunspel opened London stores on Old Compton Street in 2011 and Chiltern Street in 2012 as well as a small menswear boutique on Jermyn Street in Piccadilly at the end of November last year.

The retailer’s Redchurch Street store was temporarily moved to a space on Dray Walk near Brick Lane while the space was revamped last year. As well as its original site at the corner of Redchurch Street and Boundary Street, the renovated shop has also taken the space next door, which was previously occupied by skincare brand Aesop.

Sunspel, which was founded in 1860, is primarily a menswear brand. Womenswear was relaunched after Nicholas Brooke and Dominic Hazlehurst acquired the company, which had been family run, in 2005.

Brooke is now chief executive while Hazlehurst is a director.
