‘Support is growing for Made in Britain products’

I’m excited by the opportunities that the Made in Britain label can create for British manufacturers, retailers and brands.

The UK is a hotbed of fashion creativity but we need to be more successful at manufacturing in this country. The past 20 years has seen a huge reduction in manufacturing. We know why this happened, but with prices rising in the Far East, retailers’ enthusiasm for buying goods closer to home is growing.

This is a significant opportunity for UK manufacturers, but only a determined and genuine two-way commitment from retailers, designers and brands will create the confidence the industry needs to invest.

Last year, for the first time in decades, fashion manufacturing grew, mostly from luxury products, but we are also seeing a rise in standard UK fashion manufacturing.

Our sourcing event, Fashion SVP (September 23 to 25, Olympia) puts us in constant contact with the needs of buyers and manufacturers.

Buyers want more Made in Britain products and we are responding by including some UK manufacturers, alongside 12 other ‘Euro-Med’ countries at our event.

We intend to continue supporting UK manufacturers to ensure they are strengthened for the benefit of the whole industry.
