Tesco saw like-for-like sales in the UK rise 2.5% for the seven weeks to January 10. Non-food sales strengthened ‘a little’ against third quarter performance.
Tesco said it saw positive like-for-like sales growth across most non-food categories, driven by market share gains in sectors including clothing.
Total group sales at Tesco rose 11.6% during the Christmas and New Year period, driven by rapid international expansion and “steady” UK growth.
International sales grew by 32.7%, with sales in Asia jumping 43% over the period. Sales in Europe were up 24%.
Online sales were up 18% to £273 million over the seven week period.
