Tesco Ireland chief executive retires

The chief executive of Tesco Ireland, Philip J Clarke, is retiring from the supermarket less than two years after taking on the role.

He will be replaced next month by Andrew Yaxley, who is the current director of Tesco’s London business.

Clarke has spent 40 years at Tesco and was previously chief executive of its stores in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Japan.

Tesco’s Irish business, which used to be part of the wider European division, will now operate as part of the British operation led by Matt Davies, who will join the company from Halfords in May.
