Tesco launches mobile payment app

Tesco has launched a mobile payment service called PayQwiq that can accept payments of up to £400.

The supermarket’s new app allows shoppers to store debit card and Tesco Clubcard details and has been tested with thousands of customers around 50 stores in Edinburgh and London, according to Drapers sister title Retail Week.

Tesco is now extending the scheme to around 500 Tesco stores within the M25.

Rival Sainsbury’s is trialling its version of an app called SmartShop, while Asda’s owner Walmart has launched an alternative in the US.
