Tesco sales rise 0.3%

Tesco has increased UK like-for-like sales by 0.3% for the first quarter ending May 28, compared with the same period in 2015.

The retailer has agreed sales of its coffee shop Harris & Hoole coffee shops, as well as restaurant chain Giraffe, garden centre chain Dobbies and Kipa in Turkey to allow “greater focus” on its core offer.

The company said group like-for-like sales increased by 0.9% during the 13-week period, and international sales were up by 3%.

“We have delivered a second quarter of positive like-for-like sales growth across all parts of the group in what remains a challenging market with sustained deflation,” said chief executive Dave Lewis.
