Tesco has announced it is set to “simplify” its operational structure, and 1,700 jobs will be affected in a bid to streamline customer experience.
The move will lead to people managers, compliance managers and customer experience managers being removed from large stores and fulfilment centres across the country, and is part of a cost-saving drive across the business.
In total 1,700 jobs will be affected, but Tesco claims that 900 new roles with broader remits are set to be created as a result, and existing employees will be supported to find “alternative roles” in the business.
Matt Davies, CEO of Tesco UK and ROI, commented: “These changes remove complexity and will deliver a simpler, more helpful experience for colleagues and customers. We recognise these are difficult changes to make, but they are necessary to ensure our business remains competitive and set up for the future.”
“Our priority now is to support affected colleagues through these changes in any way we can. We hope to retain as many colleagues as possible in the new roles we have created and in the vacancies we currently have available.”
