Textile mill wins business innovation award

Textile mill Hainsworth has scooped a family business innovation award for its innovative fabrics produced throughout the seventh-generation family business.

The Yorkshire company, which was founded in 1783, has been presented with the Family Business Place Red Ribbon Award for Innovation.

The 250,000 sq ft mill, which employs 190 people, this year launched a lifestyle brand called Scarlet & Argent, which consists of woollen blankets and throws.

Tom Hainsworth, managing director of Hainsworth, said: “This award is fantastic recognition for all the hard work being done by the Hainsworth team to build on our heritage and use it to create an exciting and successful future for the business.

He added the Scarlet & Argent brand has received a great reception from retailers and as a result they will be rolling out further products in 2013.

Anita Brightley-Hodges, managing director of the Family Business Place, said: “We are delighted to present this award to Hainsworth because during its 228-year history this prestigious seventh generation family business has quietly got on with developing innovative and protective fabrics.”

The Red Ribbon Awards 2012 ceremony was held last week at the Pullman Hotel in London.
