The FARA Workshop to close

Islington charity clothing upcycling store The FARA Workshop plans to close at the end of February.

The store on Pentonville Road was a departure from the charity’s usual retail model, taking garments and fabrics that otherwise would be turned into rags and reworking and up-cycling them into a collection designed, made and sold in-store.

The charity said in a statement: “Unfortunately brand success was not matched by economic success and with maximum charitable contribution paramount to FARA’s business the decision was taken to cease operations. The FARA Workshop will remain an important marker for FARA – a courageous concept demonstrating forward thinking, tackling the issue of diminished resources head on with a commitment to do things better in the future.”

It emphasised that in its year of trading it established a brand taking steps to reduce, reuse and recycle the “excesses of our throw-away society whilst embracing the social responsibility to making a difference to the lives of others”.
