A business-to-business distributor of made in Britain products called The Great British Exchange has launched online.
Based in Harrogate, Yorkshire, The GBE sources British products across eight categories, including fashion, and sells them online to retailers in the UK and overseas.
Managing director Matthew Hopkins said British producers are exempt from a membership fee until they receive orders of at least £500.
“There is no one else working to bring retailers and British products together to trade in one place online. We want everyone to know we are committed to securing sales, we’re not a directory or agent,” he added.
Jeff Moody, managing director of the British Independent Retailers Association, said: “The Great British Exchange is fantastic; such an original idea and business solution that solves so many issues for retailers and British producers. We’re really looking forward to working together.”
John Pearce, chief executive of the Made in Britain Campaign, added: “The Great British Exchange could revolutionise the way retailer and trade buyers source British made products. It’s great to see a web-based platform that will have social impact on the high street, at the same time as having a direct effect on sales for British manufacturers across many categories.”
