The Great Divide to open bricks-and-mortar store

Menswear etailer The Great Divide will open a bricks-and-mortar store next month.

The 150 sq ft concession will open inside existing denim store Bad Denim at 82 Lower Clapton Road in Hackney next month, with additional The Great Divide branding to be added to the exterior.

Labels stocked on The Great Divide’s website, including outdoor brand The North Face, Swedish menswear label Our Legacy and Bass Weejuns footwear, will be sold on rotation.

Other brands to be featured include Redwing Shoes, Universal Works, Carhartt, Folk, Soulland, Penfield and Patagonia.

The Great Divide co-founder Steve Monaghan told Drapers he would consider additional bricks-and-mortar points of sale as well as standalone stores in the future but did not provide a timeline.

“We want to take it slow; look to the future, look at the economy. There’s no point growing too big and exploding or going bust, we’ve seen that happen to some real independent legends and we won’t be taking that risk.”

The Great Divide was founded in 2011 and stocks about 60 brands across fashion, footwear, grooming, accessories and homeware.

Bad Denim, which sells its own-label collection, covers 475 sq ft in total.
