Leeds contemporary menswear retailer The Hip Store has opened at a new location on Vicar Lane in the city centre, moving from its previous home in the Trinity shopping centre.

The retailer has opened at 84-86 Vicar Lane in the site previously occupied by kitchenware specialist Peter Maturi. The two floor store has approximately 4,300 sq ft of trading space, but Hip is only currently trading from the 1,600 sq ft ground floor. It plans to open the first floor at a later date, as yet unconfirmed.

It closed the 1,100 sq ft Trinity store at 212 Albion Street on May 29.

“We are moving because we needed a bigger site because we’re trading really well. The new location fits well with what we’re doing and it is good to have more open space again,” said co-founder Everton Campbell.

“Trinity was good for us but we’re ready to be a standalone, destination store again.”

Hip moved to Trinity in March 2013 from its previous 700 sq ft store in the Thornton Arcade.

In May last year JD Sports Fashion took a stake in the retailer, which was founded by Campbell and Umberto Annechini in 1987. Annechini left the business in 2012.
