Jill McDonald: the low-down on the new M&S fashion boss

Everything you need to know about Marks & Spencer’s new managing director for clothing, home and beauty, Jill McDonald. 


  • McDonald began her career as a graduate marketing trainee with Colgate Palmolive.
  • She joined British Airways in 1990 as a brand manager, and worked there for 16 years, rising to head of global marketing.
  • In 2006 she joined McDonald’s as chief marketing officer for the UK and northern Europe.
  • Four years later, McDonald was promoted to CEO of McDonald’s UK and president of north west Europe.
  • In 2015 she joined Halfords as CEO, replacing Matt Davies, who left to join Tesco.

  • Lets hope she dosent get hung up on fashion to the point of silliness.What M&S needs are clothes that fit and that their customer wants to wear not the flailing around it has practised for the last few years.Some real expertise in QC fit and manufacture would be a help and some identity for each in house 'brand'.
