The Original Factory Shop sees value in online fashion sales

Off-price retailer The Original Factory Shop will begin selling fashion and footwear online in the new year.

The retailer, for which fashion and footwear sales account for roughly 60% of its business, currently only sells big-ticket items including furniture and electricals on its website but plans to offer its full range of in-store products.

Later this year The Original Factory Shop will move its website to a new platform designed to offer customers improved functionality and search. The relaunched website will also feature an exclusive range of Christmas gifts.

“When I started at the business four years ago, only 23% of our customers had transacted online,” said chief executive Angela Spindler. “Two years ago, that had risen to 75%, which
shows the increasing importance of ecommerce to our business.”

An extension has been completed at the company’s Burnley warehouse to take it from 100,000 sq ft to 240,000 sq ft, and a real-time warehouse management system has also been installed.
