Theory's Rosen eyes up Proenza Schouler

Andrew Rosen, co-founder and president of US brand Theory, is plotting to buy designer label Proenza Schouler from European private equity fund Permira, according to reports.

Earlier this year Permira, owner of designer label Valentino, was seeking cash in on its investment in Proenza Schouler.

Such a deal would strengthen Rosen’s portfolio of investments which include premium brands such as Helmut Lang and Gryphon.

Permira bought a 45% stake in luxury label Proenza Schouler in 2007 for just $3.7m (£1.8m at the time), just months after taking a 29.6% stake in the Valentino Fashion Group, which includes the Valentino, Hugo Boss and Malboro Classics luxury brands.
