Thom Browne heads to Pitti

New York tailor Thom Browne will show his autumn 09 collection as the featured guest designer at trade show Pitti Uomo in Florence in January.

It will be the cult designer’s first catwalk show in Europe. Thom Browne’s art-inspired conceptual shows have all previously taken place in the US.

The label’s signature look is characterised by the designer’s playful mix of proportions. Shrunken silhouettes combine short-hemmed mod-inspired jackets with ankle-hovering tapered trousers. In terms of inspiration Browne borrows heavily from US themes including 1950s Hollywood.

Every season, Pitti Immagine, organiser of Pitti Uomo, invites a top designer to run a headline show at the fair. Recent participants have included Diane von Furstenberg, Walter Van Beirendonck and Kris Van Assche.

The next edition of Pitti Uomo takes place at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from January 13-16.
