Retail entrepreneur Harold Tillman and designer Yohji Yamamoto have received awards from the University of Arts in London in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the fashion industry.

Tillman, who is chairman of the British Fashion Council, and Yamamoto, were presented with the honorary fellowship and doctorate by university chairman Sir John Tusa at a ceremony last Thursday.

Other recipients of the awards included Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Jimmy Choo, Linda Bennett, Rifat Ozbek and Ottavio and Rosita Missoni.

The University of Arts is the first dedicated arts institution in the UK to achieve university status.
