Top retailers lined up for Summer School

A compelling line-up of department store executives are due to speak at the 82nd Oxford Summer School.

Liberty chairman Marco Capello, Beverley Aspinall, managing director of luxury food retailer Fortnum & Mason, and Tony Wheeler, managing director of John Lewis’s London department store Peter Jones, will address delegates at the Summer School, held at Keble College, Oxford, on August 20-26.

The week-long event, organised by the former British Shops and Stores Association (now British Independent Retailers Association), comprises lectures, tutorials and workshops on subjects ranging from marketing to finance.

The National Skills Academy for Retail, led by Skillsmart Retail and charity Retail Trust, is offering 11 free scholarships to indies with fewer than 1,000 staff. They must apply by Friday May 13 at www.nsaforretail.com/oxfordsummerschool.
