Topshop and Topman appoint new commercial director

Speedo’s chief operating officer Matt Brewster has been appointed to the newly-created role of commercial director of Topshop and Topman, effective from January 12.

Brewster joined Speedo International in January 2009 as chief financial officer before taking up the chief operating officer role in January 2011, which he has held ever since.

He was previously finance director of streetwear brand Boxfresh – which, like Speedo, is part of the Pentland Group – from January 2007 to January 2008. Before that he worked as a finance manager for consumer goods company Procter & Gamble.

One industry source described him as “a real rising star” with a “natural talent for retail”.

Brewster will leave Speedo at the end of the year and the brand’s head of global sourcing, Neil Weaver, will take over as interim chief operating officer.

Current head of finance Rob Hicking will join Speedo’s board as interim chief financial officer, a role Brewster has been covering until now. “These internal appointments are part of the brand’s focus on succession planning and will ensure continuity for the teams,” a spokeswoman for Speedo said.

Topshop and Topman’s HR director Helena Feltham said: “We are delighted that Matt Brewster will be joining the Topshop Topman board as commercial director. This is a new role driving our global commercial opportunities and Matt’s appointment is another positive step towards supporting our global expansion strategy.”
