Topshop festive sales fall, reports suggest

Topshop like-for-like sales fell by almost 11% year-on-year for the seven week period between Black Friday in November and the first week of the New Year, it has been reported.

Overall sales fell at the Arcadia Group, which includes Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge and Burton, by around 6.5%, the Sunday Times said.

However, Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green denied the figures were correct. He said: “We are bored with this continual harassment by The Sunday Times. There are 28,000 people working in Arcadia. It is a private company, it has not published a Christmas statement in 14 years and it does not intend to do so now. The numbers are wrong.”

Arcadia has not yet filed its accounts for the year to August 2016.
