Topshop launches gender neutral changing rooms

Topshop has announced its changing rooms are gender neutral following pressure from customers.

The retailer stated that it had already introduced the policy after performance artist Travis Alabanza, who identifies as trans feminine, claimed to have been refused entry to female cubicles.

Alabanza was shopping with friends in Manchester when they decided to try on dresses in the store’s female changing rooms, but they were told to use the male changing rooms instead.

A tweet by Travis about the incident prompted Topshop to confirm its change in policy after garnering support.

A Topshop spokeswoman said: ”All Topshop and Topman customers are free to use any of the fitting rooms located within our stores.”
