Topshop/Topman New Zealand has reportedly gone into receivership, months after the company’s Australian arm fell into administration due to rising debt levels.

Top Retail, which operates the business in New Zealand, said its two stores in Auckland and Wellington will continue to operate until a final decision is made on their ownership.

The first Topshop/Topman flagship in New Zealand opened on Queen Street, Auckland, in March 2014. Top Retail secured the rights to own, develop and operate Topshop/ Topman in the country in 2010.

Top Retail is run by local fashion designer Karen Walker and menswear retailer Barkers.

Speaking at the time it secured the partnership, Sir Phillip Green, owner of Topshop/Topman parent company Arcadia, described the move as “a very exciting step in the continued growth of Topshop and Topman as global, yet uniquely British brands”.
