Topshop raids Asos for new design chief

Jacqui Markham has left and rejoined Topshop in the newly created role of global design director, replacing Emma Farrow.

Markham worked at Topshop for 14 years from November 1997, latterly as design director, before she joined Asos as womenswear design director in March 2013. She previously held positions at Oasis and Karen Millen.

In her new role at Topshop, which she started this week, she will oversee the 60-strong in-house design team, working alongside creative director Kate Phelan.

She replaces former design director Emma Farrow, who left Topshop at Christmas and is now head of design for new womenswear brand Finery London.

Markham said: “As we move into a new phase of international expansion and partnerships, our aim is still to be the world’s number one fashion authority. Strong and cutting-edge design has always been our focus and I hope to continue building on and further strengthening this position.”

Asos is in the process of recruiting a replacement.
