Topshop Topman opens first New Zealand flagship

The first Topshop Topman flagship in New Zealand opened on Queen Street, Auckland, on March 13.

The 10,000 sq ft two-floor store will receive 300 new styles per week, 10 days after they become available in UK stores.

It is run by Top Retail, a joint venture comprising New Zealand fashion designer Karen Walker, local menswear retailer Barkers and a third silent partner. Top Retail secured the rights to own, develop and operate Topshop Topman in New Zealand in 2010.

The team is now actively looking for new space to open stores in Wellington and Christchurch, as well as further expansion across Auckland.

Barkers chief executive Jamie Whiting said: “We believe New Zealand’s fashion retail market is in very good health, and we see Topshop’s arrival on our shores as a big signal of confidence.”

Sir Philip Green, owner of Topshop Topman parent company Arcadia, said: “Their team’s expertise in the New Zealand market is invaluable to us. This is certainly a very exciting step in the continued growth of Topshop and Topman as global, yet uniquely British, brands. I am confident that New Zealanders will enjoy the retail experience and fantastic product offer.”

A Topshop Topman shop-in-shop within The Department Store in Takapuna, Auckland, launched by Top Retail in 2010, will continue to trade as normal.
