Trade lifts at John Lewis

Sales at department store group John Lewis were down 6.6% to £89.84 million over the week to December 6th, an improvement of 20% against the previous week.

Trading highlights included the fashion directive which was in positive territory at 0.9% over the week with childrenswear performing well and girlswear scoring its best trading week ever.

John Lewis stores in Liverpool and Cambridge stood out said the business however all other stores were in negative like-for-like territory , except for John Lewis in Welwyn, Herts.

John Lewis director of selling operations region B, Dan Knowles said: "There are 13 shopping days left to Christmas, with clearance to follow .Our shops are busy, we have the strongest product availability we have ever had, an excellent value proposition, and our stock levels and supply chains are both extremely well managed."
