Sainsbury’s has poached George at Asda’s buying director Sara Bradley to spearhead product development at its Tu clothing brand.
Bradley, who was promoted to buying director at George last year, will join rival Tu as head of buying, design and technology.
She will lead a product team of 50 and report to business unit director Adrian Mountford.
Mountford, who previously worked with Bradley at Bhs, told Drapers that she was singled out for her experience at both high street and supermarket level. “Sara has a fantastic mix of high street and supermarket knowledge,” he said. “Her background is in womenswear, but she has knowledge of menswear and kidswear too.”
Bradley, who is on maternity leave from George, has yet to confirm her start date at Tu, but it is likely to be within the next few months.
Mountford added that Bradley would focus on developing Tu’s supply base. “Sara has great leadership skills and fantastic sourcing knowledge. As we develop our supply base, she will help shape the mix of direct and indirect sourcing.”
Sainsbury’s plans to double the space dedicated to Tu in the next three years and will allocate 50% of new space to non-food ranges as it develops larger stores of more than 70,000sq ft.
