Two climb on board at Sports Direct

Sports Direct has drafted in two non-executive directors as the sports retailer tries to restore City confidence.
Malcolm Dalgleish, head of retail in Europe, Middle East and Africa at property firm CB Richard Ellis, and Dave Singleton, former Reebok senior vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, have been appointed as non-executive directors.

The appointments are part of the firm’s commitment to review board membership, according to Sports Direct. They follow the departure of independent non-executive director Chris Bulmer.

The two new non-executives are understood to have joined on the basis that the retailer will improve its relationship with the City and investors, after shares in the company fell to half their initial float price of 300p earlier this year.

Sports Direct acting non-executive chairman Simon Bentley said: “These appointments strengthen the board significantly. Dave and Malcolm’s experience will be of great value.”
