UK high street sales inch up

Like-for-like fashion sales on the UK high street edged up 0.1% for the week to 13 August, with average footwear sales rising by 4.9%.

Clothing sales grew marginally by 0.4% on the same week last year, according to BDO’s monthly high street sales tracker.

The latest results mark the second consecutive week of growth for instore sales, which has not been seen since May.

Meanwhile continued good weather across the UK resulted in an uplift for overall footfall, which rose by 1.1%.

Footfall on the high street saw the most growth with a 2.6% rise year-on-year. However, shopping centre footfall fell 1.4%.
