UK retailers to start offering Apple Pay next week

Apple Pay, the contactless payments service signed up to by Marks & Spencer, New Look, JD Sports and London department store Liberty, is expected to launch in the UK next week.

As previously reported by Drapers, a number of UK retailers have signed up to offer Apple Pay, which will allow shoppers to purchase goods by tapping iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch devices on readers.

Leaked details, revealed by technology blog 9to5mac, point to a July 14 launch date for the service, which was already expected this month.

Marks & Spencer is lined up to be one of the largest adopters of the technology, supporting the service across over 620 of its UK stores.

During a conference call following its most recent trading update, M&S chief executive Marc Bolland was coy about discussing a launch date, but hinted to journalists and analysts to expect something shortly.
