UKFE merges with BCIA to create super trade body

UK Fashion Exports will merge with the British Clothing Industry Association, to create a super trade body to represent the entire fashion trade sector.

British Clothing Industry Association (BCIA) chairman Peter Lucas said: “My aim is to use BCIA’s structure and financial strength to bring the industry together in one streamlined organisation operating from 5 Portland Place and supporting the British fashion and textile industries.”

Lucas, who is chairman and chief executive of menswear business BMB Group and chairman of Arafa Holdings Brand division, confirmed that talks are also underway to bring trade bodies representing the UK’s textile sector under the BCIA umbrella.

He said the combined expertise of BCIA and UKFE would provide members with a wide range of services covering legal, technical, health and safety and employment issues, as well as advice on exporting, importing, sales and marketing, trade shows and exhibitions, and training and development.

Lucas added: “There are many other industry organisations that do a number of these things. It would be more efficient if we did a lot more of them together, rather than us participating in a series of smaller gatherings.”
