UKFT named as sector skills body

The UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) has been appointed as the sector skills body for the fashion and textiles industry, replacing skills development organisation Creative Skillset.

UKFT will manage apprenticeship frameworks, and take responsibility for the registration and certification of apprentices in England, Scotland and Wales, it was announced yesterday at a reception at the Houses of Parliament.

It will also work with devolved stakeholders to maintain and develop performance standards and apprenticeship provision for the sector.

Adam Mansell, chief executive of UKFT, said: “With industry skills and training being a huge part of UKFT’s commitment to the sector, this is very welcome news.

“It is extremely important to ensure the management and certification of apprenticeships and other vocational qualifications is closely aligned to the needs of the industry.”
