Premium footwear retailer United Nude is opening its first store outside London, in McArthurGlen’s York outlet, today (February 21).
The 350 sq ft unit is the first outlet store for the retailer, which currently has branches on Regent Street and Floral Street in London.
International retail manager Karn Verma told Drapers that the opening was the start of a five-year strategy to expand into Europe, with a particular focus on Spain and France, through the McArthur-Glen group.
“It will be a case of trial and error for us,” Verma said. “It’s our first outlet store so it’s a teething process and we’ll be testing out price points to gauge the reaction of shoppers to the brand.”
The new store, which will initially stock products from United Nude’s spring 13 and autumn 13 collections, will open up the retailer to a new customer demographic.
“A lot of premium footwear labels, such as Rupert Sanderson [which has a store in the Bicester Village outlet centre], are moving into the outlet route – it makes the product more accessible and it allows us to control how items are discounted,” said Verma.
United Nude is also on the lookout for premises in Brompton, London, following the success of a pop-up shop in the area last year.
