The positive mood continued on the second day of menswear trade show Jacket Required, with brands praising the presence of “quality buyers” at the autumn 16 edition held at the Old Truman Brewery in East London.
“It’s a good show and there are not a lot of tire kickers here. We haven’t spoken to these types of customers in this type of environment for a few seasons,” said Greg Lavery, sales manager for Dr Martens for Ireland and Scotland. “We’re not really here for writing orders but we’ve seen the right kind of people - Radar in Dublin, Exile in Edinburgh and Attic in Aberdeen.”
“It has been quality not quantity for us at Jacket this season,” said Matthew Seamarks, international sales manager for streetwear brand Black Kaviar. “It takes the buyers a bit longer to filter through to upstairs but it is a really good show for us. We have seen mostly UK accounts although there are some French buyers here too.”
Andy Tompsett, head of UK for Merc, agreed the show “took a while to get started” today but added that he was “very pleased” overall. “We’ve written orders and had lots of appointments so it has been very positive for us,” he added.
Milan Ramanandi, sales manager at Zone Two, which represents brands including Samsoe & Samsoe and North Quarter by Christopher Shannon, said: “Yesterday there were some lulls but overall we were really busy and it has been good today. There is a lot of optimism in menswear at the minute, price is still really important but the sell-throughs for autumn 15 were pretty good with the exception of the really heavy outerwear. Guys have been layering more because of the milder weather.”
However Christian Jensen, UK country sales manager for Danish contemporary streetwear brand WoodWood, said the exhibition had been effected by clashing dates with Copenhagen trade shows Ciff and Raven which are running February 3 to 5.
“It has been good but some of our bigger accounts have been out in Copenhagen for the other shows. It would be good if they could schedule them separately next time.”
