Urban Outfitters appoints European chief operating officer

Urban Outfitters has appointed a new chief operating officer for the the group's European business.

Andrew McLean will take on the newly created role on January 5 and be responsible for all European shared service operations, including finance, logistics, development and HR for the company's Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie operations, as well as its wholesale brands Free People and Leifsdottir.

McLean joins from Liz Claiborne, where he worked from 2003, most recently as president of the outlet division. He has also worked at Gap.

McLean will report to Urban Outfitters chief executive Glen Senk.

Senk said: "We are delighted that Urban Outfitters' expansion in the UK and the rest of Europe has been met with so much success. We are committed to continued growth abroad. Andrew's significant experience in retail and operations will make him extremely valuable at this important juncture."

Urban Outfitters has 140 stores in the US and Europe.
