Vente-Privee could exit UK in event of a no-deal Brexit

Private Sales site Vente-Privee plans to pull out of the UK market if the UK leaves the European Union without a deal, Drapers has learned.

In a note accidentally sent to customers on Monday, the business – which is rebranding as Veepee – said it would stop selling in the UK from 6 March indefinitely.

It read: “Every day for the past 11 years, we have done our best to surprise you with the best brands, at the best prices. Unfortunately, the current circumstances of economic uncertainty have led us to the decision to take a break in our activities.”

However, Drapers understands the email was prepared in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal and was sent in “human error” to all UK customers today.

On Tuesday it sent an email apologising for the error, which said: “The Brexit madness has taken over our teams which, by mistake, informed you of a possible sales shutdown.
However, be reassured, we definitely intend to keep offering you the best deals as we have been doing for 11 years.”

The business continues to trade in the UK for the time being.
