New and emerging businesses were given five minutes each to pitch their concepts at the Retail Recharged event in London on October 20. Delegates could to vote for their favourites through the event’s app.

Viewsy won in the Accelerated Market Entry category and Localz – the winner of John Lewis’s technology incubator JLab in 2014 – won the Connected Customer award.

Online employee scheduling software provider Rotageek won in the Operational Excellence category, while Loyalty Lion, which helps retailers to reward consumers for social engagement, won in Adaptive Marketing.

The four winners will each receive a coaching workshop and have the chance to pitch for the overarching Retail Recharged Breakthrough Innovation Award, which will be presented in February 2016.

Retail Recharged, which was organised by Rich Insight, took place at RBS’s London headquarters in Bishopsgate, London. Speakers included former Mothercare chief executive Simon Calver, and brand and European business development director at US lifestyle retailer Land’s End Alessandro Carnicella.

The event app also enabled attendees to message each other, ask questions of and find out more information about the speakers, and answer questions themselves.

Data from the app also provided insights: for example, 48% of the audience gave themselves six out of 10 or less when asked how innovative their business was.
