Vince Cable seeks meeting with Tesco bosses

Vince Cable has called for a meeting with Tesco boss Dave Lewis to discuss the supermarket’s long-term strategy.

The business secretary is in “listening mode” and wants to speak to the retailer about its future and that of its 300,000 employees in the UK, according to City AM.

However, the Institute of Directors has warned the Liberal Democrat that MPs should steer clear of meddling in the affairs of the troubled retailer.

Senior corporate governance advisor at the IoD Oliver Parry said: “Politicians should be wary of intervening in businesses. Even state-owned enterprises like RBS should be managed at arm’s length from Government.”
