Vivienne Westwood profits climb to £2.5m

British designer Vivienne Westwood posted pre-tax profits of £2.5m last year, but said wholesale sales grew only marginally due to the economic climate.

The eponymous company, which has stores in locations including London, Manchester and Leeds, saw profits grow from £247,000 while sales increased from £17.6m to £20.8m for the year to December 31.

According to accounts filed at Companies House the business said that although wholesales sales only grew marginally due to the economic climate, the opening of a new showroom in the US would help grow sales in the coming years.

It said its retail operation performed well and the company will maintain its strategy of opening more retail outlets.
