Warm weather boosts fashion sales by 7.3% at John Lewis

Fashion sales soared by 7.3% at John Lewis for the week to May 17, as warm weather encouraged shoppers to update their wardrobes.

Womenswear was the strongest category of the week, up 13.2% year on year, while kidswear increased by 11.8%. Sunglasses rose by 107% for the period and women’s accessories and beauty was up 6.7%

Total sales for the week increased by 6.6% to £69.24m, while online sales were up 23.5%.

Ed Connolly, buying director for electrical and home technology at John Lewis, said: “This week, we have the run into the bank holiday weekend trading opportunity across all categories and our World Cup campaign across digital, print and in shops begins in earnest, so we expect a good week.”
