Warm weather drives footfall recovery

Sunny skies and warmer weather drove a 3.2% increase in footfall last week, compared with a drop of 4.3% in the same week last year.

There was a particularly strong rise for high streets, where footfall was up by 5.5% compared with a drop of 5.7% in the same week last year. However, footfall in shopping centres continued to drop, falling by 1%.

The story was positive across much of the country. Virtually every region experienced a rise, with the exception of Scotland and Northern Ireland, which dropped by 1.2% and 1.8% respectively.

The figures from Springboard Footfall Benchmarks were for the week commencing 11 June.
