Weird Fish hires for growth push

Lifestyle brand Weird Fish has bolstered its management team with the appointment of former Long Tall Sally director Gerald Dawson.

Dawson joined this week as finance and operations director and his new role will focus on driving Weird Fish’s multichannel business.

Managing director John Stockton said Dawson would be an “integral part” of the brand’s future strategy.

“He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and core experience in multichannel business, which will be fundamental to the group’s ambitious growth plans,” he said.

Dawson was most recently marketing and ecommerce director at womenswear retailer Long Tall Sally, which is yet to appoint a replacement for his position.

He joined Long Tall Sally in September 2009 and prior to that held roles including managing director of furniture retailer The Cotswold Company. Dawson also worked on Amazon’s finance and accounting team for five years.

Weird Fish has 11 UK standalone stores and about 450 stockists globally. In the 2012 calendar year overall sales rose 9% to £12.9m, while in the first half of 2013 the business reported an 8% increase in like-for-like sales.
