Weird Fish to open 12th store in York

Weird Fish will open its 12th store in York on Thursday, as the lifestyle brand and retailer continues to increase sales.

The 800 sq ft store will be located at 36 Stonegate in York, joining stores in cities including Bath, Newquay and Portsmouth.

Weird Fish said like-for-like retail sales increased by 8.3% in the first four months of 2015, compared with the same period last year.

Ecommerce sales increased by 45% in the same period and now represent 39% of total sales, up from 32% in 2014.

Managing director John Stockton said: “Our new products this season, in both menswear and womenswear, have been enormously successful and it is clear that new and existing customers are appreciating our distinctive and relaxed designs.

“We are very excited to be opening a new store in York, where we already have many customers and, combined with our new website, which launched in November, reflect the continued growth and success of the Weird Fish brand.”

Weird Fish was launched in 1993 and had total sales of £14m in 2014. It has more than 400 stockists in the UK, including Debenhams, Cotswold Outdoor and Blacks Leisure, as well as more than 80 stockists in Europe.
