West End to take £150m this weekend

Retailers in London’s West End are expected to make £150m this weekend as last minute shoppers hit the high street in the last weekend before Christmas.

According to New West End Company retailers on Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent Street are getting ready for the final surge before the holiday, with deeper discounts and promotions being offered across stores.

Debenhams are expecting lingerie and shapewear to be top sellers this weekend and are boosting sales by offering half price across partywear and footwear as well as gifts, gadgets and games. Warehouse, French Connection, Dune and Mango are offering up to 50% off, while Gap and H&M are giving shoppers up to 60% off.

This weekend marks the start of the five day countdown to Christmas Day, over which retailers in the West End are expected to make £300m, almost a third of the total spend predicted for the core six week Christmas trading period.
