WGSN's new advisory board appoints first chairman

Simon Collins, former dean of the school of fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York, has been appointed chairman of trend forecasting agency WGSN’s new advisory board.

Various members of WGSN’s leadership team, including chief executive Jose Papa and chairman Duncan Painter, will join Collins on the board, which was set up to challenge the company’s creative direction to ensure it maintains its position in the marketplace.

Other members will include executives, designers, academics and entrepreneurs from across Europe and South America.

Collins was dean at Parsons from 2008 until the end of 2014. Before that, he was creative director of Nike’s Asia Pacific division. He has also previously worked with Marks & Spencer and the Burton Group, among others.

Papa said: “Simon’s extensive background working in design and academia with influential brands, government institutions and beyond, combined with his creative and innovative thinking, made bringing him on board a natural decision.”

Like Drapers, WGSN is part of Top Right Group.
