Will this gold card buy me M&S?

Third time lucky? Having failed in his previous two official bids to buy Marks & Spencer, Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green made an unofficial and cheeky offer to Sir Stuart Rose at the graduation ceremony for the Fashion Retail Academy in London.

First he offered Sir Stuart Rose a five euro note in exchange for two tickets to the Marks & Spencer AGM tomorrow, where Rose is expected to face a showdown with shareholders over his bid to take on the executive chairman role and the recent plummet in the company's share-price. When Sir Stuart Rose quipped that the note would actually cover the price of two shares, Sir Philip Green handed over his gold card saying: "that should buy me the whole company shouldn't it?"
