Woolmark Prize reveals regional nominees

The 49 regional nominees for the 2014 Woolmark Prize have been revealed ahead of the judging, which will take place in June and July.

The winner will receive the International Woolmark Prize, AU$100,000 (£66,000) in prize money and their collection will be stocked in leading retailers across globe, including Harvey Nichols in London, Joyce in China and David Jones in Australia.

The nominees, put forward by the 21 nominating bodies from Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East and the US, are considered the top emerging talent in their markets. Each one will now design a capsule collection made from Merino wool and present six sketches along with one complete look to a panel of industry experts at one of five regional events.

The winner from each final will receive a contribution towards their next collection, as well as invitation to participate in new year’s international final hosted at Milan Fashion Week.

Belgian designer Christian Wijnants (pictured) won this year’s prize, awarded in March, for his hand-knitted, tie-die designs.
