WSA challenged by Compass

The organiser of New York streetwear trade show Capsule has launched a footwear fair in Las Vegas to ride on the back of WSA, the biggest footwear show in the world.

The launch of the new show, called Compass, has prompted several brands including Gola and Fred Perry to switch from WSA to Compass, which is seen as smaller and more exclusive. Compass will take place on the same dateline as WSA from July 28-29. The venue will be the Alexis Park resort.

Compass will feature a tightly edited range of 40 designer footwear and top-tier street and sneaker brands. Buyers from major department stores and directional independents are expected to attend.

The show is supported by an advisory board including high-level buyers from US department stores Barneys and Saks.
Brands including Schmoove, Redwing and Tretorn have all signed up to exhibit at Capsule.

The head of sales for one brand exhibiting told Drapers that the more intimate feel of the show was an appealing factor. “It’s going to be really good because of the more open plan layout which should encourage more buyers to walk through the stand,” he said.
