Young fashion indie Chocolate mulls sale to fund online growth

Northern Irish young fashion indie Chocolate is considering a full or partial sale to investors in order to fund its ecommerce expansion plans.

Dave Conaghan, owner of the Derry-based business, told Drapers he has been approached by a few interested parties.

“We’re in ongoing talks,” he said. “If we do sell we want to go with the right kind of team so we’re still open to offers.”

The sale will provide funding for plans to grow the Drapers Independents Award-winning store’s online offering from 20 brands to 40, which will be run from a newly acquired 3,000 sq ft office above the store.

Conaghan, who aims to remain with the business as a non-executive director with a minority stake, is aiming to complete any sale by next season.
