New boardsports show Hub replaces Surf Shop

Brintex, organiser of now-defunct UK boardsports show Surf Shop, is to launch a new event called Hub in 2010 to replace the previous show.

Surf Shop was shelved in 2009 due to difficult trading conditions, and the new show will be designed to create a fresh offer for boardsports and niche streetwear buyers.

Brintex hopes to lure a similar profile of exhibitors, including core boardsports and streetwear brands alongside a raft of hardware suppliers.

The new show will take place in Bristol on August 10-11 at The Amphitheatre and Waterfront Square, with a series of marquees providing a focus on each sector of the market. The show will be edited into zones, with a hardware area separated from the clothing collections. Different marquees will focus on core surf brands, skate-oriented brands and streetwear.

Event director Lucy McPhail said: “We did a lot of thinking, and talking to brands and buyers about what they wanted. It was clear that more of the same was not the answer. The industry needs something fresh, something that is not wedded to a single sector, and that can encompass new sports, styles and fashions under a generic umbrella – hence Hub.”

The last edition of Surf Shop, which used to be held in Exeter, was in August last year. The August 2009 edition was shelved.

McPhail added: “Surf Shop was held in Exeter for many years for easy access from the south west, Wales, the Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland. The new venue in Bristol retains those advantages with an international airport and a one-and-a-half-hour train ride from London, but is also in a stunning location on the waterfront in the heart of the city.”
