German etailer Zalando is cancelling its Bread & Butter event in January as the Berlin Senate may need to accommodate refugees from the growing migrant crisis in Tempelhof, the trade show’s location.
Zalando said it plans to stage a charity concert similar to Live Aid instead of running B&B.
“The discussion about how to help refugees has been going on for quite a while now in Berlin and Zalando is helping refugees with donations on a regular basis already,” said a spokeswoman.
“Regardless of the decision of the Berlin Senate as to where to accommodate the refugees, we have decided to organise a benefit event in the style of the Live Aid concert. The B&B team will work on this new concept in collaboration with our partners. Should the senate decide to accommodate the refugees at Tempelhof, we would contribute to make it habitable.”
This Friday (September 4), Zalando will donate shoes and clothes from its sample sale to an emergency shelter called LaGeSo in Karlshorst. The project is managed by the German Red Cross and will give donations to more than 1,000 refugees.
